My Splurge Yesterday

by Lynn

Friday I posted about saving money making your own granola. So, today I thought I would share my splurge yesterday.

We love books. Anyone that has been to our house can tell you that. I have a certain weakness for cookbooks though.

Yesterday, a friend watched the kids so my husband and I could go out to dinner. We had to go to Sam’s Club to pick up a few things for the business. Our date nights always seem to involve Sam ‘s or Lowe’s. Anyway, my husband was looking for the stuff he needed and I wondered off to the book section. I knew I should have stayed away but I didn’t. Something caught my eye. I saw a whole stack of Martha Stewart’s new cookie cookbook. I should have just left it sitting there but I had to look. It is a beautiful cookbook. The photography is great. There are so many pictures. I think all of the cookies are pictured. The front few pages are all pictures off cookies with the name and page number by it. I could not believe how nice it was. So, I picked one up and wandered back to my husband, who by the way, had stayed on task. He just looked at me with the cookbook in my hand. I told him it was no more then we would have spent if we had gone to a movie for our date night. He then said we never go to the movies, which is true, but he let me get it anyway. I am so glad. I guess he knows he will get to try everything I make.

I will have to keep you posted as I try the recipes. I think a lot of them have been in her magazine or are on her website, but to have them all in one place with a picture will be very nice.

Here is just a few I want to try coconut macaroons, raisin bars, giant chocolate sugar cookie, rocky ledge bars, lemon squares, and I could go on and on.

And for those of you who are wondering, we do not eat all the sweet stuff I make. I send a lot of it to my husband’s office. His staff thinks it is great when I send a plate full of goodies to them. Yesterday morning I sent hot raspberry muffins with him. All he brought home was the empty plate.
