Pepperoni

by Lynn

We like pizza at our house. We usually make homemade pizza at least twice a month. I have posted my favorite pizza crust recipe. It came from Taste Of Home back around 1994. (I turned it into a whole wheat version) My husband’s favorite topping for pizza is pepperoni, but it is usually so greasy. I have tried the turkey pepperoni but we did not like it as well. Several years ago I saw a tip in a cooking magazine that has helped me so much in fixing pepperoni pizza. It helps make it less greasy.

Place a paper towel on a microwavable plate. Place a layer of pepperoni on the paper towel.

Place another paper towel on top and place another layer of pepperoni on it.

Cover with another paper towel. Microwave for 30 to 45 seconds.

You will then have this.

Most of the grease will be on the paper towels and not on the pepperoni. Now you have perfect pepperoni for pizza.

I guess for those of you who do not use paper towels this won’t work. I have yet to give up my paper towels though . :)

Great idea. We love pepperoni. We have been using the turkey pepperoni for years and have all just gotten used to it. ;)

I like to make homemade pizza, too, but haven’t tried putting pepperoni on it yet. I’m definitely going to do this trick when I do! Thanks!

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for your visit. I have asthma too. I will pull out my information and share with you foods that help with it if you would like it.
Hugs,
Elizabeth

I’ve also read that boiling pepperoni for a bit will help. Of course, then you have to wash the pan. :>)

I have boiled sausage type meat before to remove some of the fat but I never thought to do it with pepperoni. I am sure that would work just as well, maybe even better.

I just “wash” my pepperoni. Run it under hot water and drain or blot dry on a paper towel.

What a smart idea! All the grease is one of the reasons my husband doesn’t like plain pepperoni pizza. I will definitely be using this tip!

I cannot completely give up paper towels either. They are just too handy sometimes. Thanks for the tip.

LOVE this! we all blot our pizza (homemade or not) because that layer of grease is just disgusting to us, but this trick is BRILLIANT! Thanks so much!
