Vacation and Family

I had a very good trip to OR to visit family. It has been two years since I have been to OR. I grew up in OR and all my family still lives there. We try to visit every year or two but it is so hard to see everyone, every trip. This year we went out for my youngest sister’s wedding which gave us a chance to see a lot more people then usual.

She had a very nice beach wedding on the OR coast. It was so beautiful. I miss the Ocean so much, it was great to spend some time at the beach. And it was beautiful weather. When I left home in OK it was in the 90’s, on the OR coast it was in the 50’s. It was so nice to have an escape from the heat.

The wedding was on a Tuesday and it was a small family wedding. We had a big reception for my sister and her new husband on Saturday, though. It was great to see so many family and friends. There were several relatives and friends that I had not seen since I got married fourteen years ago.

We did fit in some other things while we were in OR. We visited the zoo, and again it was a cool day. I forgot that sometimes you need a sweatshirt in July when visiting the northwest. :) My kids were not a all dressed for weather in the 50’s and low 60’s. We did have a few “hot” days while I was there. But after living in OK for fourteen years, I have a little different definition of what “hot” weather is. I was not feeling sorry for everyone when it was 85 degrees, with no humidity.

We also fit in a quick trip to Powell’s Bookstore. For those of you in the northwest, you know about Powell’s. For those of you who don’t know, it is the best book store to visit. They have a ton of books. New and used. They have all kinds of unique books. I love books and my kids and I bought quite a few. We are now well stocked for reading material.

We also enjoyed some great food and produce that Oregon is known for. I will post more about that in the next few days.

So, I am very thankful for the chance to see all my family and friends. It was a great trip. I am thankful I was able to make it to my sisters wedding and see her begin a new journey in life. But after a busy ten days, I am so thankful to be home. Vacations are nice but I always enjoy coming back home and getting back into our normal routine.

My sister just got married on July 5. What a great time to see lots of family and friends! I just wish we have more time to visit… I’m glad you got to go to your sister’s wedding!

  2. Sounds like a great vacation and a great time with family. 85 with no humidity huh? Now THAT’S a heat wave! (hehe)

I grew up in KS so the first time I saw the ocean was when I was in college. My husband’s family is from CA so we get to see the ocean once every two years. I can’t get enough of it. It’s beautiful.

Nothing like visiting family to make you grateful.

Yes, it has been mild lately which I am grateful for. No days over 90 degrees in a while here.

But you make me sound like a wimp! Being 6 months pregnant with no AC in a stuffy 2nd floor apartment would be unpleasant for mostly anyone when it’s over 90 though.

I have also never lived far from the CA coast growing up with the sea breeze and all that so I guess I’m not that tough when it comes to hot weather. I lived in Ohio though one summer and it was quite nasty.

Did you see 5 million Obama stickers while you were in Portland?

  5. Catherine, I think anything above 80 is hot when pregnant. :) And I am so thankful for air conditioning even when it is in the 80’s. I was glad to have cooler weather in OR. Last time I visited OR they had record heat. I went from hot weather to hot weather. I much prefer a nice break from heat. I think if I lived there now though I might miss the summer weather.

  6. It’s always nice to spend time with family, but even better when it’s a celebration! You sound a lot like me; I love to travel but nothing is better than coming home and seeing the mountains I grew up in!

    Happy Tuesday!
