On December 5th we are having a Christmas party for my husband’s staff and their families. We do this each year, usually sometime during the first week or two of December. We usually end up having a big group, but we like it that way. We enjoy having the staff and their families over.
I enjoy doing this, but I will be honest, it is a lot of work. I usually end up making at least ten different desserts and candies plus appetizers. I rarely make the same things two years in a row. I have a few recipes that I have made more than once, but most of the recipes will be new. I make more then we need for this one night. Each year I buy a Christmas platter or container for each family. At the end of the party each family gets to fill up their platter or dish with food. It is a nice way to send something home with them.
I have tried to slowly collect things that make planning and having this party easier. One way that I have done this is to buy myself one new thing each year. Sometimes it is a new cake pan and other times it is a new platter or cake stand. A couple of years ago I bought these.
Silpat mats baking mats, I love these. These make candy making so much easier. I can’t even begin to tell you how much time and clean up these save me. They were well worth the price. I picked up two of these at Bed Bath and Beyond using a 20% off coupon. I loved them so much that the next year I got Martha Stewart’s version at Macy’s. They also work well.
If you make a lot of candy type desserts this time of year, I hight recommend these silicone baking mats.
Be sure to come back next week. I will begin posting my Christmas party recipes. I will be posting some great ideas for holiday candies, desserts, and appetizers.
