This time of year I love to use my crockpot, but not all crockpot recipes are quick to put together. When I am really busy, I need quick and easy crockpot recipes. It is so nice to be able to put something quickly in the crockpot early in the day and have dinner waiting for me at 6:00 or whenever I need it.
I love this version of baked beans because it is a little different than your average baked beans.
This is a meal I have fixed many times over the last 10 years. My kids really like this version of baked beans. I like it not only because it is so quick and easy to put together, but because it is a frugal meal to serve.
Crockpot Baked Beans and Sausage
- 1 pound kielbasa type sausage
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 cup ketchup
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 2 tablespoons prepared mustard
- 3 cans (15-1/2 ounces each) great northern beans, rinsed and drained (I use beans I had cooked ahead and put in the freezer)
- Mix together ketchup, sugars, vinegar, molasses, and mustard. Set aside.
- Cut kielbasa into bite sized pieces.
- In a crockpot mix together the kielbasa, onion, and beans. Add ketchup mixture and stir well.
- Cook on low for 4-6 hrs.

Yummy Lynn this looks so good. I am always in need of new ways to use up smoked sausage. I just got a new 3 in 1 crock pot for christmas so this will be perfect. I have been making the overnight oatmeal almost every other day.

I went and bought some great northern beans today. LOL I bought dry not remembering if the recipe was for canned or dry beans. How did you prepare your beans for this recipe. You mentioned you had some left over. I prefer dry beans anyhow.

@Tina @ Mommys Kitchen, I usually cook up a big batch of beans in the crockpot, then freeze them in small, about 2 cup, containers. This way I can use them instead of canned beans. I soak the beans overnight and just cook the next day in the crockpot with no seasoning, just water and beans. I will usually do 1 or 2 lbs like this in my large crockpot. Then I use the beans in recipes or freeze to use later on. I prefer cooked dried beans to canned beans b/c the texture is so much better. I am not sure if that helps you or not. I hope it does.:)

@Cathrin, I am not sure pork and beans would work using this exact recipe because they are sweetened some. But I think you could adjust the recipe and make it work.
