I love cookbooks! But you might have already guessed that.
Several years ago, my children were discussing their “collections.” They were talking about rock collections, button collections, penny collections, etc. One of my daughters turned to me and said, “Mom, what do you collect?” As I was thinking about the question and how to answer it, my other daughter replied, “That is easy, mom collects cookbooks.” And do you know what? I think she is right. I do collect cookbooks.
I love to sit down and read them like I would a book. In fact I have read the majority of my cookbooks. Yes, I have. I start from the beginning and mark the recipes and tips that catch my attention.
I was recently asked how many cookbooks that I own. Well, I have never counted all of them, and I am not sure I want to, but I am guessing that I own over 100.
We love books in our house. We have a lot of books in general. Books are something we think are important to have, to read, and to spend money on. We have all kinds of books. Yes, we have cookbooks, but we also have kids books, history books, school books, biographies, how to’s, christian books, and others. We really do love books.
I have purchased a lot of my cookbooks, both used and new, but many have been given to me as gifts. My family knows that I love cookbooks, and they have given me many of them. I also love to get cookbooks from the library. I have quite a few cookbooks that I purchased after I checked a book out from the library and loved it so much that I bought it. Other times I have found only one or two recipes from a library cookbook, and I was glad that I did not spend money purchasing the book. I am always looking for new inspiration in my cooking, and looking through cookbooks give me that.
I am often asked about what cookbooks I like and use, so I decided to start a series on my favorite cookbooks. I have many cookbooks, but there are a few that I turn to over and over again. They are the cookbooks that I have used and abused. They are marked up, falling apart, splattered on, and more. I have a few special favorite cookbooks, and they would be hard to part with. I want to share their titles with you.
I want to share the cookbooks that I think are worth spending money on, and that are worth taking up space on your shelves. I want to give you ideas for cookbooks to purchase for yourself or to give as gifts.
I decided to not only post about my favorite cookbooks: I decided to start doing giveaways featuring some of my favorite cookbooks. This way I will be able to feature more books, but it will also give you a chance to own some of my favorite books. My giveaways will either be the books I post on or other cookbooks that I own and love.
My readers are what make this site what it is, and I want to give something back to you. My goal is to giveaway about two cookbooks a month for the rest of the year. Some months I may giveaway more, some less. I hope to giveaway over 20 cookbooks by the end of the year.
I am not currently sponsored or paid to do any of these reviews or giveaways. I want you to know that these are truly books I use and enjoy, not just the newest books that people or company’s are trying to promote. Although if Martha, Rachael, or Cook’s Illustrated want to send me books to review or giveaway, I am more than willing to accept them :).
For now, the books I will be reviewing and giving away are truly books I own and love. I will purchase all the giveaway books with my own money and if that changes, or a specific post is a sponsored post, I will let you know.
I hope that this is a series and feature you will enjoy.
I have two cookbook giveaways planned for March, so be looking for those in the next few weeks.
