Taste Of Home

I have mentioned many times how much I love cookbooks. I have quite a collection of cookbooks, and I use them all the time.

Today I want to share with you not just one cookbook that I love, but several cookbooks that are in my collection.

I have mentioned before how much I love Taste of Home. They helped give me a love of cooking. They made cooking easy and fun for me. I would not be the cook I am today without Taste of Home.

So, here is where I admit that I have a few,

okay, a lot, of Taste Of Home cookbooks.

I have received the magazine almost every year since 1994. The trouble was that I used and used and wore out many of those magazines. So, I started collecting the Taste Of Home magazine annual cookbooks.

I also have quite a few of the annual Quick Cooking cookbooks, (now called Simple and Delicious). I also have most of the Best of Country cookbooks. These contain recipes from other Reiman publication magazines.

Besides the annual Cookbooks, I have a few holiday ones, The Best of Country Cookies, The Best of Country Breads, Grandma’s Recipes, The Slow Cooker Cookbook, The Beef, Chicken, and Pork cookbooks, and I could go on and on.

Some of these I bought new, several where given to me as gifts, but most of them I have picked up at used book sales. I also bought a group of them on Ebay for a really good price. Some of them have even come from paperbackswap.

Many of these books were published and purchased over ten years ago, some fifteen years ago, and are no longer available, but Taste Of Home still sells many good cookbooks, and there is still the magazine that you can subscribe to.

  1. I love Taste of Home! My Mimi turned me on to them with some of the older issues (from early 90s I believe) and I have my own subscription. I don’t have any cookbooks but every time I get one in the mail I sit down with a pen and a recipe card and write down all my favorite recipes! :)

  2. My mother-in-law introduced me to the cookbooks. I now have four and I enjoy them all. I ordered extras that were on sale before Christmas ($5!) to give as gifts. As for my favorite recipe…that’s hard to say! I often visit the website as well, and my “go-to” recipe there is Tuna Spaghetti Pie, which I make with salmon instead.

  3. I love cookbooks too!! I get a lot of different magazines but I try to weed them out after awhile, so I’ll cute or copy recipes I find in them.

  4. One of my daughter’s very favorite recipes comes from a very old annual collection of recipes from Taste of Home – broccoli cheese casserole.

  6. I actually just got an email from the Taste of Home website this morning, saying they’re having a summer sale. They currently have $.99 shipping per item, which isn’t bad, but I really like catching them when they have their big sales. A few months ago, I got several cookbooks for only a couple bucks each! They clearanced some of their older ones still in stock (only a year or two old) and I got some awesome deals. <3

    Taste of Home and Cooking Light are two of my favorites cookbook/magazine/go-to recipe collections. I don't have nearly as many as I used to, though. There's something about repeatedly moving dozens and dozens of magazines along with me when I moved locations several times that made me finally cut down, lol.

    Hi Lynn. Taste of Home is what got me started into cooking and baking. My patenal grandma bought me a taste of home cookbook for a wedding present in 2004 while my maternal grandma got me a year subscription. I continue with the subscription and now have 5 cookbooks of TOH. I also visit the website at least 2-3x per week because I like the “advanced search” function. I like to sort by ingredients I have or method of cooking. For example, since it’s summer I’ve been trying to avoid using the oven so search for recipes using the crockpot or bread machine.

    I have a lot of TOH and QC cookbooks too–also the Southern Living annuals and some of their special cookbooks–holiday, etc. I am definitely a cookbook collector. I have to say I didn’t have much of an interest in cooking until I started getting the TOH and QC magazines several years ago. Then I started collecting the cookbooks. When I get a new cookbook, I sit down and read it cover to cover like a novel, making notes of recipes I want to try.

    So many favorite recipes–hard to choose, but I have started baking bread and LOVE the Sesame French Bread recipe in TOH’s Complete Guide to Country Cooking.

    I too have a similar collection and love my cookbooks. I also check lots out from my library. I “read” cookbooks often while watching TV in the evenings and it is so enjoyable to me.

    I LOVE Taste of Home! My grandparents always subscribed to Country Living and a variety of Reiman Publications, so TOH was a natural fit! There are always so many yummy looking recipes, I go through and on a large piece of sticky note, I write down the page and title, as well as any notes/ideas I have. I keep this inside the book. Once I try them and I like them, then I write the page number and title right inside the front cover.

    My favorite recipe is from the 2006 Quick Cooking — page 30 “Two Layer Silk Pie.” I have used the peanut butter silk part of the recipe in a different concoction. (Beat 1-14 oz can sweetend condensed milk & 1/2 c peanut butter, fold in about 6 oz of Cool Whip — that’s IT! YUMMY!).

    So, I take this PB Silk and made a Peanut Butter Brownie Trifle… In a trifle bowl, I alternately layer (in this order) 1/2 of a large package of instant chocolate pudding (prepared), cubed chunks of prepared 9×13 brownie, 1/2 of the peanut butter silk, 1/2 of 12 oz carton Cool Whip, and a sprinkling of crushed Heath or Skor candy bars. There should be enough to do this twice and it will beautifully fill a trifle bowl! Make sure you end up with Cool Whip and the crushed candy bar on the top!

  11. Oh, I love Taste Of Home, too! I have the 2005 cookbook, and recipes I’ve clipped out of magazines people pass on. Taste Of Home is wonderful!
