I have been posting a lot of pudding recipes lately, so I thought it would be a good time to ask a question about pudding.
I have always preferred homemade pudding over the boxed pudding mixes. And lemon and chocolate have always been my favorite kinds of pudding.
So now I am curious, do you prefer homemade pudding or do you enjoy those boxes of pudding that you buy at the store?
And why do you prefer one over the other?
I am also curious what is your favorite flavor of pudding? Do you enjoy chocolate pudding or vanilla? Or do you enjoy butterscotch, lemon, or maybe even the pistachio pudding?

Homemade is my favorite, I really think it has much better flavor…and vanilla is by far the best!
Butterscotch is my favorite flavor! Or white chocolate…mmmm….I have honestly only eaten homemade pudding once. A friend of mine made it and it was…well…not very tasty. So, I prefer boxed pudding at the moment, but I can’t make an informed decision until I try making the homemade myself!

You can make home made instant or cooked pudding. cooked pudding use eggs and the skill is the tempering- but for lemon it has a wonderful color and flavor and I am more inclined to make it more like a lemon curd. Puddings can be more than a dessert in themselves, we are all used to trifles or seeing parfaits yet we dont often think to top a cake serving with pudding. Butterscotch pudding makes a great topping, lemon is usually suggested for gingerbread and can you imagine a rich warm chocolate pudding over a brownie, think! lava cake. I definitely have nothing against boxed mixes for speed in using up excess milk and also getting more dairy into me.
pistachio is my absolute #1 favorite! i DO like chocolate, butterscotch, tapioca, lemon, well pudding in general! LOL never had the homemade stuff just the boxed type

We “went organic” in July of last year. A few months ago, I was craving some good ol’ jell-o instant pudding when I gave making some from scratch a whirl. Well, there is no going back for my family!! And it is soooo easy! We have been eating chocolate, but I am going to brave a from-scratch butterscotch one of these days.
@Tracy Emerson, I agree, there is no going back to pudding mixes, after you are used to the homemade kind. We love this homemade butterscotch pudding. I make homemade pudding and love chocolate in little individual custard cups with a maraschino cherry on top!
I know you have posted a few recipes for different puddings, but do you have a basic pudding recipe, such as one I could use for a pudding pie filling? Thanks.

There is nothing like warm homemade chocolate pudding with a scoop of ice cream in it. We do this a few times a year for dessert. YUM!!!
My hubby loves box pudding with cool whip on top! It has made him sick the last two times he had it–I can’t say I’m surprised and I’m glad to feel no pressure to buy boxed mix or cool whip EVER AGAIN.
To my knowledge, I’ve never had homemade pudding, but I am willing to try it
I made pudding from a box last week and was disappointed with how it looks (gelatinous, not smooth and creamy). I like cold vanilla and chocolate puddings.
After seeing your pudding recipes I was so excited to try them. I made your lemon and double chocolate pudding recipes this weekend. They were both delicous. We don’t live in the states and the thought didn’t even cross my mind that I could actually make my own pudding, it was just one of those foods that I thought I couldn’t make without the box. Thanks for sharing.
@Erica, I am so glad that you enjoyed them and that you found an alternative to the boxed mixes. I have a few more recipes that I hope to post soon.
i like both. homemade certainly tastes better but sometimes when i’ve craving a quick sweet snack i’d rather just whip up a box of instant in a couple minutes. chocolate and butterscotch are my favorite flavors.
