Crock Pot Bacon Corn Chowder

One of my favorite and most used appliances in my kitchen is my crock pot. I use it at least once a week, sometimes more.

During the fall and winter my crock pot is often used to cook soup. I love being able to spend a few minutes in the morning getting dinner started and have it ready and waiting at dinner time.

This bacon corn chowder that I have for you today is the perfect fall/winter soup. We love this with bacon, but sausage would work just as well in it.

  1. This looks yummy! Have you tried making it on the stove top? If so how did it turn out?

    • I have not tried it on the stove top, but I think it would work fine. I would just cook it until the potatoes are done and then add the remaining ingredients just like you do for the cp version.

Ham would be good too! (Or for that matter probably any leftover meat that needs used– steak and potato chowder anyone?)

  3. This sounds great! I am going to make this dairy-free, though, by just using chicken stock.

  4. What is the difference in flavor of this and your crockpot potato corn chowder? I’ve always used cheddar cheese in that one and put bacon on top and I’m wondering how similar these are. Thanks!

    • You are right they are very similar. The other recipe has cream and swiss cheese in it, so it has a little bit of a richer flavor. If you just use cheddar in that recipe, than you will get similar results to this one.

  5. Sarah, that steak and cheese chowder idea sounds awesome! Yet, I can hardly resist the idea of a 1/2 lb of bacon in a soup. Ha- not quite health food, but at least you’re not eating that all at once.

I don’t think I’ve combined potato AND corn together, but I’ll need more crockpot recipes for next week. Been using it a lot and I need a few new ideas!

    Thank you for sharing :)
