Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes

Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes

Three things many of us look for in recipes are quick and easy, kid friendly, and inexpensive to make using everyday ingredients

These cheeseburger sloppy joes fit all those things. They are quick and easy, kid friendly, and an inexpensive dinner that everyone will love.

Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes are actually a recipe that I have been working on for quite awhile. I had an idea in my mind for what I wanted and I just could not get it quite right.

If the taste was right, the texture was not. If the texture was right, the taste was not. I wanted the taste of a cheeseburger made into an easy meat filling.

I finally discovered the secret ingredient that made what I had in mind, just right. It made them just what I was looking for. They were delicious!

I will fully admit that this ingredient will make some of you cringe. Others of you though will say something like, yes she is just like us and uses that too.

For those of you that might cringe, please don’t judge me too hard. This is not a dinner I feed my family everyday, although it is so good, and I am sure they would love it if I would.

This is one of those I had a crazy busy day. You know those days where we are so tempted to order pizza or pick up fast food.

We all need quick and easy meals and I figure this is better for us than a drive thru. Just saying.

Some of you probably already guessed the secret ingredient.

Yes, it is the stuff in the yellow box.

I love cheese. The real stuff. The high end expensive stuff. But I tried and tried to get regular cheese to work in this and it just didn’t. The texture was all wrong no matter what I tried. Sometimes you just need that creamy velvety texture that the cheese in the box gives you.

And the end results of this was just what I was looking for. It was so quick and easy to make and my family loved it.

Please tell me some of you use the cheese in the yellow box sometimes. I am not the only one that occasionally buy this,  am I?

Another Note: For those of you that are totally anti the cheese in the box, you can use shredded cheddar and also add in a little milk, but it won’t be quite the same texture or taste.

  1. I love the yellow box! Probably a little too much. I use Velveeta in several of my recipes. It also makes an amazing grilled cheese sandwich. I’m definitely going to make this over the weekend. My family will love it. Thanks for all your experimentation!

  2. We use it ALL the time! :) Look… the way I look at it is… give us the recipe, we will use it, tweak it, or not use it at all. It is not my place to be judging you for what you use or don’t use. I see people all the time downing people for using certain things, and I think that is just wrong! I don’t use canned chicken broth, but if I find a recipe that uses it, I don’t slam the author… I use my homemade stuff. I think common courtesy and respect flew out the window somewhere. Just sayin’…

Okay… off my soapbox now! :)

By the way, I never thought to put the cheese IN the sloppy joe! DUH! Why do I always miss the obvious? LOL! Thanks for shakin’ my brain!

  3. Please. We one dip recipe for classic AND one dip recipe for Velveeta blanco. Oh, and no kids to blame it on around here. We just embrace the yum. So glad you posted this. I see it in next week’s menu

As much as I don’t want to use it, I still do!! Thank you Lynn for sharing and keeping it real!!!

No you are not the only one, I keep the new queso pouches in the pantry, sometimes it’s just the right thing to add.

  6. Hi Lynn! First time I’ve ever commented here. I get your emails, and enjoy your perspective and recipes. The yellow bos was the only cheese available when we were missionaries in the provinces of the Philippines. My husband ate it regularly by the carton (1/2 kilo boxes) as a snack with Pepsi!!! And his cholesterol and blood pressure are both perfect! Here in the US now, I like ‘real’ cheese, but I am putting this on the menu for this week! Sounds interesting and yummy ;)
Thanks so much for all you do here!

  7. I have been thinking of something just like this! And now, I don’t have to do all the work to figuring it out. Also- we totally use velveeta occasionally. It’s not an all the time thing, but like other commenters, I keep the pouches on hand in the pantry for recipes like these. All things in moderation I say!

  8. I can’t wait to try this! We LOVE Velveeta at this house. Thank you for sharing.

  9. Sometimes I use Velveeta. There just isn’t anything else like it. I don’t use it every day, but I think once in a while, it’s OK!

  10. Love this recipe! I leave the Velveeta out (due to an allergy) and use lentils rather than ground beef.
