Pumpkin~Love It or Hate It? {Ask the Readers}

Ask The Readers

Fall is the time of year where pumpkin recipes are everywhere. My family loves pumpkin and I love baking with it this time of year.

We love pumpkin baked oatmeal, pumpkin breakfast cookies, pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin cake pudding, magic pumpkin bars, pumpkin bread, gluten free pumpkin pancakes, gluten free pumpkin scones, and more.

Gluten Free Ihop Pumpkin Pancakes_

You get the idea. My family loves pumpkin this time of year. But I know not everyone is as fond of pumpkin as my family is of it. So now I am curious about pumpkin and if you enjoy it.

Do you love or hate pumpkin? Are you tired of all the pumpkin recipes you see this time of year or are you loving it? And if you love it, I would it what is your favorite recipe for using it? Do you have a favorite?

  1. Love it, love it, love it. I’m British, the pumpkin and squash are really underused, underrated vegetables here. The immigration populations, especially the Caribbean guys are the only people who make use of them. I love American recipe blogs such as yours because they have such great ideas for things to do with these autumn favourites. Most of the recipe ideas for pumpkin I know are Japanese, so the new suggestions are great for me. I always use squash in soup with potatoes, onion, bacon and pluses like yellow split peas, brown or green lentils. I flavour it with Vegeta, a gorgeous East European vegetable stock powder. Just before serving I add spinach. Everyone loves it. Thanks for all the great recipes, I always enjoy it when you’re updates are on my Google Now cards.

Love, love, love pumpkin. I do need to try your oatmeal pumpkin.

  3. I love using pumpkin in recipes this time of year. Pies, cakes, breads, pancakes, muffins… But I do get pumpkin overload sometimes. I really don’t need pumpkin latte, pumpkin coffee creamer, pumpkin candles, pumpkin ravioli, etc. Enough already guys! LOL :-)

  4. I “ditto” Sandy’s response!

  5. I love pumpkin but can’t stand pumpkin spice stuff that seems to take over this time of year. We seem to have an allergy or intolerance to nutmeg so I have to make my own blend for pumpkin recipes and we can’t buy commercial pumpkin pie or scones or anything (it’s in all the apple products too)

  6. I get tired of seeing pumpkin recipes every year, but I am allergic to pumpkin. Actually, I’m allergic to the whole winter squash family. Pumpkin, butternut, acorn, delicata, kabocha, cushaw, spaghetti squash, etc.

  7. Teresa Rouzer says:

I like pumpkin in moderation! A favorite quick bread is pumpkin apple bread and pumpkin muffins are nice too. For years I baked my own pumpkin in the oven to use for pies at Thanksgiving and froze the extra. I can get the same sort of pumpkin flavor from butternut squash, which is somewhat denser and not as watery.

  8. I love pumpkin! Really, pumpkin by itself doesn’t have a strong flavor. It’s all the yummy spices that make everything pumpkin taste so great! I love to add pumpkin pie spice to my coffee grounds before brewing. It makes a delicious fall coffee flavor. My favorite pumpkin recipe has to be pumpkin bread. I make it all year ’round!

  9. Shirlene Weber says:

I enjoy pumpkin recipes but my favorite is a box cake mix (spice, choc, or pecan) with a can of pumpkin and about 2/3 cup water. I also like pumpkin scones, yum.

  10. I am always so glad to see the end of pumpkin recipe season, I don’t hate it, but would also not choose it. I rarely ever cook with it.

  11. I hate pumpkin but don’t mind seeing the recipes. I love other fall foods such as apples and those recipes are everywhere too.

  12. I love pumpkin and my husband loves it even more. It is expected that I make pumpkin pies, pumpkin bread and several other pumpkin goodies every fall. I love all the recipes so I may find something new to try. My children will not even try pumpkin, but that’s okay with us because we don’t have to share! HAHA!

  13. Irma Foshee says:

Love anything pumpkin. Really like pumpkin bread (year round), pancakes, of course pie…I like it in place of squash and sweet potatoes, mashed with brown sugar and pumpkin pie spices. Have a Happy Thanksgiving Lynn

  14. We adore pumpkin and love fall recipes :)

  15. I used to love all things pumpkin but then by the time Thanksgiving came, having pumpkin pie didn’t seem like a ‘treat’ anymore, so I don’t eat pumpkin foods too often now. I’m sort of the same way with sweet potato. I used to only eat it on Thanksgiving and now it’s everywhere, but I don’t mind that as much. And really the same thing has happened to cranberries over the past 20 years now that I think about it! I used to always really look forward to Thanksgiving foods and now they seem more ‘everyday’. Sort of a bummer I think.

    • I think you are right about it being so popular now. I was looking through some old cookbooks recently and found only a one or two pumpkin recipes total. Now pumpkin recipes seem to be everywhere. So I agree it is really not the treat it used to be. Growing up we pretty much only ate it in pie and sometimes pumpkin bread and it was always during the holidays. Now it is every where all fall long.
