Homemade Chocolate Pudding

Homemade chocolate pudding is a rich, creamy dessert that is easy to make and is delicious!

Homemade Chocolate Pudding

Homemade pudding is one of my favorite desserts to make. It is so easy to make and so much better than the kind you buy in a box at the store.

If you have never made homemade pudding it is a must try! It really is easy to make. Once you make the real kind you may never go back to the box stuff again.

Growing up my mom always made homemade pudding. The kind that came in a box was actually a treat for us. The homemade kind was pretty much all we knew.

I have continued that tradition with my own family. I make it homemade all the time. I buy the boxed pudding when a specific recipe calls for it, but when we want a bowl of pudding I always make it homemade.

Today’s recipe is very similar to my homemade double chocolate pudding, but this one makes less. A lot of readers have made my double chocolate pudding, but it makes a lot. It is more for a family or for serving company. The recipe I am sharing today it perfect for just a few bowls.

  1. Eileen Giesey says:

Is 1/4 cup of salt correct?

    • No it is a mistake! I am so sorry. Thank you so much for catching it!! That is why I shouldn’t work late at night….. It should be 1/4 cup baking cocoa and 1/4 teaspoon salt. I just fixed it. I am so sorry about that! Thanks again for letting me know.

  2. You do not list cocoa in the ingredients but mention adding it in the directions. Is there cocoa in it?

    • Yes it has a mistake! I am so sorry. Thank you so much for catching it!! That is why I shouldn’t work late at night….. It should be 1/4 cup baking cocoa and 1/4 teaspoon salt. I just fixed it. I am so sorry about that! Thanks again for letting me know.

  3. 1/4 cup of salt doesnt seem right either??? maybe thats the cocoa amount.

    • Yes it has a mistake! Thank you so much for catching it!! That is why I shouldn’t work late at night….. It should be 1/4 cup baking cocoa and 1/4 teaspoon salt. I just fixed it. I am so sorry about that! Thanks again for letting me know.

  4. I wonder If I could use arrowroot instead of cornstarch?

    • I have not tried it, but others have said it works fine in pudding. I know people that are allergic to corn often use it. So, yes I think it is worth trying.

  5. Have you tried this in the microwave? Ever since my young son started making that box stuff in the microwave, I use it for all my pudding. You can just stir every two minutes instead of constantly, and the result is perfect every time.
