It is no secret that I am not a huge football watching fan, however I love food and cooking, and food and football go together very well. So, I love football when I get to make food for football watching.

I thought today I would share a few fun and very good recipes that are perfect for Super Bowl food or really for anytime.

I shared a recipe yesterday for our new favorite chip and dip type food,

bacon cheddar dip is perfect Super Bowl. YUM!

But we also love this homemade french onion dip. So easy and so good!

And we love jalapeno dip. So good!

The Happy Housewife has a recipe for bacon cheese dip in a bread bowl that sounds really good. And my friend Jen shared a beer dip recipe that looks really fun to make. (Not sure it would be good with a gluten free beer, but I might have to try it sometime.)

I love 7 layer dip and Amy’s version is almost exactly like what I make.

Baked potato dip anyone?

My sister has a really good dill dip that can be served with vegetables if you are looking for something a little bit healthier.

Restaurant style salsa is always a hit in our house.

And if you are looking for a fruit dip this marshmallow cream cheese dip looks great.

What fun foods will you be serving or making for the Super Bowl?

I made this bacon cheddar dip three times over the holidays and I never got a picture of it. Every time I made this dip it was gone before I could get a pictures. I guess that is a sure sign of a really good recipe.

I also got asked for the recipe every time I made this, which is another sign of a good recipe.

Since I never got a picture over the holidays, and I really wanted to share this recipe before Super Bowl Sunday, I decided over the weekend that my family would have to eat this one more time. Yes…..I know being related to a food blogger is a tough job, but they suffered through eating this one more time for me.

This recipe is our new favorite chip and dip type recipe. We all love it. I mean it has bacon, cream cheese, and cheddar cheese in it, what is not to like about it. (And I said it was good, not healthy. )

I like to serve this with chips, but it works great with crackers as well. Really anyway you serve this it will be good. It is also really easy to half this recipe if you are not serving a large group.

When my sister was visiting last month she mentioned that she loves to put coffee creamer in her hot chocolate. And as soon as she told me this I said something like, but you don’t like coffee. To which she replied, they don’t all taste like coffee. This was news to me, because I just assumed coffee creamers tasted like coffee.

You see, I hate coffee, I mean really dislike it, so I had no clue what was available as far as coffee creamers go, but I knew I had to find out.

Well, was I shocked when I started looking around the dairy section and realized how many different creamers were available.

And all I can say is that we still love my flavored hot chocolate mix, but WOW coffee creamers in just your basic hot chocolate is so good.

Really hot chocolate may never be the same again with all these options.

Have you tried the flavored coffee creamers in you hot chocolate?

Last year I saw several recipes online for Caramel Apple Cider. I love the combination of caramel and apples and knew I had to try caramel apple cider.

I made this many times during the fall and holidays last year and we loved it. I tweaked it a little here and there to get it just how my family likes it.

What I love about this recipe is that it is easy to scale it down and make just 1 cup for yourself or you can just as easily make a big pot of it to serve at your holiday dinner or party.

You can also easily use apple cider for this instead of apple juice. I first saw the apple juice version on Crockpot 365 and have made it with apple juice ever since. I make it with apple juice mainly because it is easy to find and keep on hand, but if you have apple cider or prefer it, just use that in place of the apple juice.

Caramel Apple Cider

32 ounce of apple juice

4 tablespoons caramel sauce

½ teaspoon cinnamon (more if you like cinnamon)

Combine all ingredients together in a pan and stir. Heat over medium low until heated through. This can also be done in the crock pot. Or if you just want one cupful like my kids often do, fill a mug with apple juice and add about 1 tablespoon of caramel to it, sprinkle with cinnamon, and heat in the microwave.

Serve and enjoy!

This is really good served with whipped cream.

It is pretty obvious by our weekly menu plan that we love smoothies. We usually have them several times a week for breakfast and lunch.

I love to make different versions of smoothies and I almost always have freezer smoothies ready for times when we need them, but I will admit that I have bought those convenience packs of smoothie mixes that you find at the grocery store.

You know the ones that I talking about don’t you?

Yes, I will admit I have bought those several times.

When I buy them it is usually when I have found them on sale with a coupon, but honestly even at a really good price it seemed like a bit of a waste when you think about what they are.

They are simply frozen fruit and frozen chunks of yogurt. And I quickly realized I could easily do this at home.

I mean who can’t freeze yogurt and fruit. I knew I could figure this one out.

I started by freezing yogurt in ice cube trays, which was very easy. This does make the chunks of yogurt a little bigger than the kind in the package, but you can also use smaller ice cube trays.

Once the yogurt was frozen I simply popped it out of the trays. I like to use a mix of vanilla and strawberry yogurt, but you can use your favorite kind.

I put them in a ziplock bag and mix in some frozen fruit. I like to freeze bananas and other fruit on cookie sheets until solid and then add them to the bag. I also use frozen strawberries, raspberries, etc. Really whatever I have.

The ratio we like best is about 1/3 yogurt and 2/3 fruit, but you can very that depending on how much you like. It does not have to be exact.

Place the bag in the freezer and when you are ready to make a smoothie place about 2 cups of fruit yogurt mixture into a blender and add in about 1 1/2 cups milk. Blend until smooth, adding more milk if desired.

This makes 2 smoothies.

You will notice the bag in the picture says 2 cups fruit 1 cup milk. We have actually decided that we like about 1 1/2 cups milk. We like the texture a little better and I find they blend better that way. So, ignore the picture and use 1 1/2 cups milk or adjust for the consistency that you like.

I am curious how many of you have bought those premade smoothie mixes? I admitted I did, so make me feel better and tell me you have too……..

And has anyone else made their own? If so I would love to hear your tips and ideas?

My family loves to eat at Red Robin. I have loved it since I was a teenager and my best friend and I discovered how good it was.

Now, my family loves Red Robin because our local one is very allergy friendly. I know this varies by restaurant, but our Red Robin is always great and so nice when it comes to dealing with our family’s food issues. We love them.

Because of all our food allergies we rarely go out to eat, but when we do go out to eat, we usually splurge a little and get a few things that we never used to spend money on.

One of those things is drinks. Our family almost always gets water. You rarely see us with pop, juice, or anything else when we are out to eat, but recently when we went out to eat at Red Robin we let our kids get a treat of freckled lemonade.

And they loved it! I knew right away this might have been a mistake because they loved it so much, I knew they would want it every time we ate at Red Robin.

Now, I have to say that it was very good and I enjoyed the glass full that I had. Well, okay it was free refills, so I had several glass fills. It really was good.

But I knew it was probably nothing too special because it tasted like just lemonade and strawberries.

So, when I got home I set out to figure out exactly how it was made. I did some online research and some taste testing and I think we came up with something pretty close to the real Red Robin Freckled Lemonade.

There is a couple of tricks though to getting this right.

You need to use a very sweet lemonade like Minute Maid lemonade. I usually avoid really sweet lemonade, but for this it works.

You also need sweetened strawberries. Not just any strawberries, but the frozen kind that come sweetened and that have a syrupy type liquid to them. You want all that sweet strawberry juice.

Now, that you have your main ingredients, this really could not be easier. Because those two ingredients, plus ice is all you need.

Homemade Freckled Lemonade

this makes one glass

a glass

ice, I like to use about 1/2 a glass of ice, but you can use less

2 tablespoons of strawberries with syrup, thawed, you want to be sure to get some of the syrup

1 1/2 cups lemonade

Place ice in the glass.

Spoon strawberries over the ice.

Add lemonade to fill the glass.

Drink and enjoy! And yes it really is that easy.
