Asian Salad Dressing

April 30, 2009

One of the main things I have been doing over the last year to cook healthier is to avoid processed and packaged foods. I have been able to really decrease the amount of these items that I buy.
I have tried to find homemade versions of our favorite things. One of the things that I have [...]

Creamy Fruit Salad

March 21, 2009

Last week I really wanted to make a fruit salad. It just sounded good. But I did not want to make my yogurt fruit salad. I wanted something different. I have made many fruit salads over the years, but most of them contained jello or pudding mixes. I am trying not to use mixes, so [...]

Homemade Croutons

November 10, 2008

Last week I tried a new recipe for 100% whole wheat bread. It looked like a good recipe but it was a little different than other recipes that I have made. I decided to give it a try. I wish I hadn’t made it, it was terrible. It was heavy and flat, kind of like [...]

Snickers Apple Salad

October 20, 2008

My kids love this salad. It really should not be called a salad. Anything that contains Snickers candy bars, really can’t be considered a salad. It is a dessert. But it is a quick, easy, and really yummy dessert. And the word salad in it makes is seem…..healthy.

Cole Slaw

September 5, 2008

I posted recently about how my husband dislikes mayonnaise. So, today I thought I would post the coleslaw recipe that he likes best. He will eat regular coleslaw, but we really prefers one with a less mayonnaise taste.

But first, is coleslaw another one of those regional things? I grew up in OR and you [...]

Potato Salad

August 27, 2008

My husband does not like mayonnaise. He says that he does not want to eat spoonfuls of fat. I on the other hand could eat mayonnaise on just about anything, sandwiches, potato salad, coleslaw, etc. As far as I am concerned mayonnaise is what makes these items so good. My husband though only eats mustard [...]

Greek Pasta Salad

July 3, 2008

I made this Greek Pasta Salad the other night for dinner. We really enjoyed it. Well, my son was not thrilled with it, but he doesn’t really like pasta unless it is covered in cheese.
Pasta salads make great summertime dinners. I have tried a lot of them and have not been very impressed. My husband [...]

Buttermilk Ranch Dressing

July 1, 2008

In trying to eat healthier one of the things I have been doing is making my own salad dressings. I have found several we liked, but nothing that really stood out. Especially when it came to a homemade ranch style dressing.

That was until last week. Several weeks ago I found at the library the [...]
