Tomato Soup with Sausage and Pasta

A couple of months ago I posted about the tomato soup I had made. We liked this recipe, in fact I loved it. However, my husband thought it needed more in it. It was not hearty enough for him. So, I tried it with kielbasa type sausage and some alphabet pasta. You can us any pasta, but my kids love it when I use the alphabet pasta. I also used tomatoes that were seasoned. I used them because that is what I had, but I thought it added a nice flavor.

We all really like the soup with these additions. My husband said it was much better because it was a lot heartier. I liked it both ways.

What a great variation on traditional tomato soup! My husband loves it plain, usually, but he also loves sausage, so I will have to try this!

  2. This sounds delicious with the kielbasa sausage. Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I have been adding spinach and ricotta tortelloni to it – awesome! I bet some nice crumbled italian sausage would be perfect with it too!

  4. Hi Lynn,

I left you something at my blog. Stop by and get it.

I love homemade tomato soup. It just tastes so much better than anything out of a can. I like to make homemade croutons for a topping.

  6. I’m planning on making this tomorrow – how did you cook the sausage and when did you add it? I’m still debating whether or not to add the sausage, but I’m sure my husband would like it that way.

  7. Shannon, I used kielbasa type sausage which is precooked so I just cut it up and added it right at the end. It only needs cooked long enough to heat it. I cooked the pasta seperate and then added it at the end also. I hope that helps and that you like the soup.

  8. Tried it – it turned out well!! I’d love it just plain with no pasta or sausage, but I think my husband preferred it since it seemed heartier and more like “stew”, lol.
