Menu Plan {January 5th-11th}

Yesterday in my allergy section I shared about why my daughter and I are going dairy free for the month of January. So if you want more details about why we are tying it be sure to read that post. I have a couple of Ask the Readers posts planned for the next few weeks on the subject also. I know some of you are dairy free and will have lots of tips and advice for us. So stay tuned for those.

I will say that every time I eliminate something from my diet, even for a short time, I realize how much I eat of it. After only a few days dairy free I can easily say I LOVE my dairy and cheese.

Have you made any changes in our diet, either short or long term, for the new year?

  1. Wow! How timely of a question. Yes. I am diabetic and have been sugar free for a number of years, but… starting today… I have chosen to go seriously low carb also. A number of reasons has prompted this… mainly I HAVE TO get my blood sugars under control! I have been tinkering with it the last couple of days, with today being the actual “first day”. I have a new appreciation for families like yours with allergies that must find “creative” ways to make food appealing and nutritious at the same time. Also, like gluten and nuts, carbs are hiding in places I never even dreamed they would be! Including my Splenda! 🙁 It is a mental struggle more than anything for me. There are somethings that no matter how hard you try, there just is NOT a substitute for. It also is way more expensive to eat… at least in my opinion. Carbs are cheap and filling. I will quit whining now. 🙂

    • I realized how many carbs we ate when we went gluten free. You are right carbs, bread, etc are cheap and we often eat them because they are cheap and easy. Diet changes are never easy, so I totally understand the whining 🙂 but if they help/work they are so worth it. I hope going low carb helps and that you are able to get your blood sugar under control.

  2. Visiting from Menu Monday….I am putting the Mexican Pork Chop recipe in my book. Not a lot of pork chop recipes out there! Your menu for the week looks yummy!
