Oil Sprayer

I love this Oil Sprayer. I have had several brands of them, but it is the overall idea that I love. They are so easy and so much healthier than this:

I do keep Pam spray on hand for a few jobs. But it is full of a lot of chemicals. I have asthama and so do two of my kids. Using a tool like this helps keep the smells out of the air in our house. In fact the few times I do use Pam I take it outside to spray it so that I do not have a coughing attack. So this tool is great to use in our house.

My one complaint with these sprayers are that they do get clogged after a few years. I think I have had three over the last 8 or more years. But when you figure a bottle of Pam costs several dollars I think that it is still a good deal to use these.
Does anyone else use one of these oil sprayers?

Grilling Pizza

We really enjoy using our grill. We use it a lot during the warmer months so that we do not have to heat up the oven.

A couple of years ago my sister told me that she had grilled pizza and that it was really good. I knew it was something I wanted to try. The recipe she use was out of a Weber Grilling Cookbook. I used the recipe she told me about, and we have loved grilled pizza ever since. It is a nice change from oven pizza, and your oven does not heat up your house.

Making pizza this way gives you a thin, crisp crust. It is more of a flat bread style pizza. I would recommend you use this recipe or one that is made for grilling. The texture of this dough is a little different than normal pizza dough.

Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Cookies

In my quest to cook healthier my main goal it to use more whole wheat. Some things may not be very healthier, but I am still trying to include whole wheat in the recipe.

These Peanut Butter Cookies are a good example of that. They are not necessarily healthy in fact they have 1 cup of shortening in them, but they turned out very good. My kids had no trouble eating these up.

Healthier Banana Bread

In my quest to try and use more whole grains in my cooking I decided to try and make my banana bread a little healthier. I used my regular Martha Stewart Banana Bread recipe. I used 1/2 whole wheat. I did use the white whole wheat though. I really like it. In fact no one even said a thing. Not even my husband who can usually taste whole wheat in things. So, I will definitely be making my banana bread with part whole wheat from now on.

I like the white whole wheat and have had good success so far. Has any one else tried it? How do you think it compares to regular whole wheat?

We love fajitas. They are a great quick and easy meal that my whole family loves. One of the ways that I save money making fajitas is to make my own seasoning at home. Homemade fajita seasoning is so easy to make.

Homemade Seasonings

I like to make up a large batch and keep it in a jar. This way I have it anytime I want to make fajitas, sheet pan fajitas, crock pot fajitas, or any other recipes that uses fajita seasoning. 

Crock Pot Beef Fajitas-

I have been making this fajita seasoning for years. It is the closest to the store bought version that I have found and we love it.

Lemon Bars

This recipe is one my mom has been making for years. It was one of my favorite deserts growing up. I love lemon and these have a great lemon taste.

It is a quick, easy, and inexpensive desert. I usually have everything on hand to make them. I think they are also a great summertime dessert because they are not heavy.

I took them to a church dinner on Sunday and they were a hit.

Fish Mama’s Trail Mix Cookies

In my quest to cook healthier I decided to try the Trail Mix Cookies that Fish Mama posted today. I was wanting to make something for dessert tonight but did not know what. When I saw these on her blog this afternoon I decided to give them a try.

Now, they are still not super healthy. They are still a cookie, but they have quite a bit of whole wheat in them and also 2 cups of oatmeal. So, I thought it was a good start to a healthier cookie. I did not have trail mix so I used some nuts and raisins instead. I also used about 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. I may try it next time using 1/2 butter and 1/2 oil.

I will definitely be making these again. My whole family thought they were very good. No one could even tell they had whole wheat in them.

Waffle Maker

I love this waffle maker. It produces great waffles. They are thick and fluffy and cook up in no time. My husband and kids gave it to me a couple of years ago for Mother’s Day. We have used it a lot. When I make waffles using this it feels like we are eating restaurant waffles, but at home.

Frugal Snack or Dessert Idea

This caramel corn is a great frugal snack or dessert idea. The recipe came from my husband’s grandmother. When we got married she gave me her favorite cookbook. She said she really did not cook much anymore and she wanted me to have it. It was a church cookbook from a church they had attended at one point. It is a large cookbook and has lots of good recipes. This is my favorite recipe from that cookbook.

I made this recently for a movie night with the kids. I had not told them we were going to have a movie night but when they saw me making caramel corn they knew we were going to have one. So, for a frugal movie night at home, get a movie from the library and make a big batch of this. It is a great treat or snack for a movie or anytime.

My tip on this recipe is it is easier to stir the hot caramel sauce into the popcorn if you have two people. It just makes it easier to get it well coated. This recipe is easy but if you have never made anything like it before I would suggest you 1/2 it the first time in order to get the idea about stirring all the sauce around. And one more thing, yes the caramel sauce bubbles up when you add the baking soda to it. It is supposed to do that.
