Menu To Do List

Sep 16, 2008

If you have read my blog for long, you know that I am big on meal planning. I go crazy with out my meal plan. It saves me so much time and money. But I have learned that it is hard to stick to the plan, if you forget to do some of the prep work. If I am planning hamburgers on Wednesday, I need to remember to defrost the meat Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. If I am planning muffins for breakfast on Thursday, I need to make muffins on Wednesday. If I am taking pie to a church dinner, I need to make a pie on Saturday.

I really struggled with this area of meal planning. It did no good to plan a meal, if I forgot to do the prep involved in getting the meal ready. But than I started using one of these.

I always post my meal plan on my fridge. Now I post a sheet like this on my fridge each week. I use this only for kitchen related stuff. I have a day planner but I use this as my kitchen planner. It is much harder to forget to defrost the roast if the note is staring at me each time I open the fridge. If I need to make cookies on Monday, I write it on Monday’s date. If I need to defrost chicken, it goes on the date that I need to do it.

I started doing this a few years ago and it has saved me so much time. Sometimes I get lazy and do not do the to do list part of my menu planner. I always regret it. A kitchen to do list definitely works for me.

I may have to try this! I’m known to forget about the defrosting part of dinner until too late. then I have to scrounge up something else to make last minute.

Great idea! I am so disorganized in the kitchen, so this would really help me. I am ALWAYS forgetting to take something out for dinner.
