Crockpot Barbecue Meat

I wasn’t going to do a slow cooking post today. But then when I posted my mac and cheese recipe, I realized that I had a really easy slow cooking recipe that I could post. It is so easy and it is one of my go to recipes.

It is barbecue, or as my husband calls it, fake barbecue meat. You see in the part of the country we live in, barbecue cooks and smokes for hours and hours. You need a rub or special sauce for the meat. There are all kinds of trick and techniques that people master to get their barbecue just right. I just don’t have time for that. So, this is an Oregon fake style barbecue.

I take some meat, boneless skinless chicken works, so does a pork or beef roast. Pork is our favorite type of meat to use. I place it in the crockpot. I pour about 1 cup of our favorite barbecue sauce on top. I use a brand called “Head Country”. It is a local Oklahoma sauce. Use whatever sauce you like. Cook on low for about 7-8 hours or until done. Remove from crockpot and shred meat. Pour over a little more sauce, maybe a cup, and mix together.

We usually eat this over hamburger buns for a sandwich, but it is good served on it’s own, or over baked potatoes.

  2. I make fakey bbq the same way you do! But with different sauce. : ) I can do it in the crock pot and make sides and its an easy meal to pull together and its ‘fun’ too!

    I check our your blog every once in a while even though I don’t usually cook like you guys do. But, today I was reading several on this page and was thinking you should post a blog on how you stay fit with all these delicious cookies, and cheesy grits, and pizza, etc.
    As a side note, two of the google advertisers on the side thought of my question first. They are about dieting. haha.

  7. Well Charity I am not really sure. I don’t eat all the sweets that I make. A lot of it goes to Matthew’s office. I also exercise, walk, etc. almost everyday. And I am not a big breakfast or lunch eater. That might be part of it. I am glad you commented. I did not know you read my blog.

  8. I make “fake BBQ” too! It’s so yummy and the leftovers freeze beautifully. In fact, I make extra just for the freezer as OAMC makes life so much easier.
    You can mix it up by cooking the meat with sliced onions and some Coca-Cola. When the meat is done, drain off the Coke and discard the onions. Mix in your favorite BBQ sauce and enjoy. It adds some sweetness and will make any cut of meat so tender it shreds with ease.

  11. Headcountry BBQ sauce is very good, I like to buy it for special occasions. I have access to Headcountry being that I also live in OK but my parent’s who live in MN stock up on it when they visit us and we bring some up to them when we visit. OK is definitely BBQ country, when people from other states visit they always want to try our BBQ.
