Knife Rack

It has been awhile since I participated in Show and Tell Friday. I have been wanting to post about my new knife rack, so I thought it would be a good thing to Show and Tell.

A few weeks ago, when my mom was here, my husband and I went to Dallas for the weekend. We had a great weekend away, but it rained most of the time we were there. We had to change our plans around a little due to the rain. One of the afternoons that it was raining, we decided to go to Ikea.

We have never been to an Ikea. I have lots of family and friends who have been to one, but we don’t have one near us. They had told me so much about Ikea that I have wanted to go, so I was glad to have a chance.

I loved Ikea!

Let me just say that I could spend way too much time and money at that store. I loved it. My favorite thing about it was all the organizational ideas and products they had. Oh, my house could be so well organized with all their stuff.

But, I tried to be good and we just came away with a few things. Well, maybe more then a few, but I did control myself pretty good. I picked up a really neat laundry drying rack, some glass storage jars, and a few other odds and ends. But my favorite thing we bought was this magnetic knife rack.

I love it! I have a pretty small kitchen with limited counter and drawer space. I have never had a good place to put my knives. They took up too much room no matter where I put them. But I was not willing to give up any of them. This knife rack solved my problem. They are out of the way and they are not taking up any counter or drawer space. They are also convenient to reach when I need one.

My sister has one like this and she gave me a tip that worked great. She did not want to drill into her tile or back splash area, so she used some strong double sided tape. She said this made it more semi permanent, in case she changed her mind. I tried her tip and it has worked great. I have had the knife rack up for a couple of weeks now and love it.

I did have to work around an outlet. I had an outlet in both the spaces that would work for the knife rack. But it works out fine, I just don’t set anything on that area of the rack.

So, what do you all think of Ikea? Are you like me and could spend way too much time and money there?

I love my knife rack also. Like the idea of using the tape to install it. I may do that when we “redo” our kitchen.

Love to go to Ikea. We don’t have one in our area. Went to one in the Houston area several years ago. My son has a large one near him in TX also.

I have always wanted a knife rack like that. I’m not sure I could give up the wall space though. I’ve never been to Ikea. I don’t really need to introduce myself to another store that I’ll spend to much money in.

I could go wild in Ikea. I love the knife rack, and am hoping to get one. Out kitchen is fairly small and I only have 1 place to prep.

    Enjoy your day!

IKEA is an awesome store. Could spend lots of time and money there as well:)

Your knife rack looks great! The only problem I could foresee with a knife rack like that is with my daughter (3). I think they’d catch her eye and she’d use her stool and go for it when I wasn’t paying attention.

How nice to get them OFF the counter and mounted on the wall.

I’ve never been to Ikea, but that is a great knife rack! Perfect for keeping them in reach, and out of the way of little ones hands.

I like where you put the knife rack; maybe I’ll do the same thing. It would save on drawer space. The local Ikea shows the rack hanging on the side of cabinet, above the sink. I was always afraid of knocking a knife off, and having fall and slice a toe. This is only a few inches off the countertop and looks safer.

Thanks for the great idea! And I’ll definitely use the double sided tape.

I have heard people rave about Ikea, but I’ve never gotten to go there. Maybe we’ll run into one some day. It sounds like such a cool store!

It is nice to not have them in a drawer, that is dangerous! On Halloween I put the cleaver in the middle of it as a decoration.:)

Just wondering what brand/kind of tape you used and whether you still find that it’s secure and strong 🙂
