I recently found this while shopping with my kids. They wanted to give it a try, so I bought one.

Do you know what it is?

Here it is on a piece of paper so that you can see what size it is.

Nope. Changing my mind. Now that I’ve taken a better look – I don’t know. It’s not spaghetti squash and it’s not a Honeydew Melon. Might be some other kind of melon though.

Canary Melon? The flesh looks too soft to be a squash!

I’m pretty sure it’s a canary melon, rather than a crenshaw. I’m definitely going to start Googling what fruits and veggies are referred to in different countries. In the US, honeydew melons are green inside with a pale almost white skin, but sure enough when I Googled “uk honeydew”, I came up with similar melons to this item. I love learning new things!

I was going to guess Spaghetti Squash as I’m growing some in my garden for the first time this year and I read that the outside is supposed to be bright yellow when it’s ready to pick. And one of the ones in my garden looks similar to this. However, I don’t know what it looks like inside, so I’m not positive by the picture above.

Thanks to your “What is it Wednesday’s”, I now find myself checking out unusual looking fruits/veggies in the supermarket to learn what they are.

Btw, if it were squash, it would look more like a pumpkin inside. Spaghetti squash looks like spaghetti inside. This, however, is totally a melon. 🙂

This looks like something my mom used to buy all the time when I was growing up. She called it a korean melon. So my guess is that or a canary melon. Not sure which one though….

crenshaw melon also known as a yellow honeydew. a lot milder than regular honeydew. I love them, but my kiddos don’t like the taste so much

Crenshaw’s are a different color inside. Spaghetti squash have differently shaped seeds. Canary.

I buy and cook spaghetti squash often. One of these was accidentally put in the spaghetti squash bin at my local supermarket and it looks so identical that I took it home and prepared it the same way as a spaghetti squash only to learn after cutting it open that it is definitely NOT a spaghetti squash. I googled “looks like a spaghetti squash” and ended up with a pool of images to choose from. This is a CANARY MELON. If you google images of canary melons you’ll agree inside and out from the good resolution pictures and descriptions that it is a CANARY MELON and it was very helpful for Lynn to have placed it on a standard sheet of print paper to determine an idea of its size. It would also help to know which section of the supermarket she picked it up in – perhaps melons or fruit rather than vegetables. Spaghetti squash has a very spaghetti-like internal composition and Lynn’s sliced-open sections do not match the internal features of spaghetti squash. Honeydew melon does not look anything like the pictures Lynn posted either. Guessing something does not and never should be a person’s conclusion. Researching or seeking a factual answer will always be more likely to result in having learned something and will improve your knowledge. Try to learn something new or several new things every day and you won’t regret it a a good habit.
