A Few Thoughts On Thanksgiving

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. A day for giving thanks. So, today I decided to share a few thoughts that are on my mind this year about Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is not about picture perfect meals. It is not about picture perfect family and friends.

It is about being thankful. Thankful for the food. Thankful for the friends and family. It does not matter how imperfect the meal is, or how imperfect the people around it are, there is still much to be thankful for.

And being thankful is so much more than one day a year. Yes, we focus on it each year on Thanksgiving Day, but thanksgiving should be something we do each and every day.

I bought the above sign for my living room earlier this year. I was going through a very discouraging time and I was really struggling. I was struggling is many ways. I knew in order to make it through this time, I needed to start focusing on the positive.

So, when I saw this sign at Hobby Lobby I bought it. I knew what I needed to do was to start focusing on what I am thankful for.

This sign is huge and sits on my my mantle.  It really does not fit the decor in the room and I know it is not my family’s favorite piece of decoration that I have, but I needed it.

I walk by it many times each day. Most days I need the reminder to be thankful. I have so much to be thankful for, but it is often too easy to get lost in the negatives of life, instead of the positives.

Over the last few months I have really worked on being thankful. I need to focus on what I have, instead of what I don’t. I want to live life with an attitude of gratitude. I want to be thankful for all I have. I want to give thanks through the good and the bad.

Is that always easy? No. At times it is a struggle. In fact, it is an almost constant struggle.

It is pretty easy to give thanks on Thanksgiving, but do I give thanks everyday?

My goal is to work on giving thanks each and everyday. On the easy days and on the really tough days. Because the reality is there is always something to be thankful for.

And one of the many things I am thankful for is you. This site would not be what it is without my readers. So thank you for following along on my kitchen adventures.

I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Thank you for sharing this. I’ve been struggling with thankfulness lately because the past few months have been very discouraging. I’m usually more optimistic and not much of a worrier. You’re right; there is always something to be thankful for. 🙂
