My New Favorite Kitchen Gadget

I have a weakness for kitchen gadgets. But I have a pretty small kitchen and gadgets take up room. I don’t have a lot of room. So, I have become more and more careful what I buy. I try to only buy things I know that I will really use.

I have wanted one of these for a long time.spider for cooking

It is called a spider. They are used a lot in Asian cooking and professional chefs use them a lot. But they take up room and I was not sure how much I would use it.

I recently bought one. I finally found a good price on one. I thought it was worth buying to see if I would use it. Well,  I love it. I use it more than I realized I would. It not only works great when frying things, which I don’t do very often, but it works great when cooking pasta. I love it for pasta. Especially small pastas  like macaroni, egg noodles, shells, and the spiral shaped variety . It works good for stirring it, it works good for take a piece or two out to test the doneness, and it works great for straining it out of the water. You just scoop it up and place it in the bowl you are using.

You can find these at most stores that sell housewares. Stores like Bed, Bath, and Beyond  or even a Target will have these, and of course cooking stores sell them.

Do you have one? Or wish you had one?

Oh lucky you! I have wanted one of those spider strainers for a LONG time. I always forget to look when we go to the cookware outlet.

This is going on my list for our next trip!!

Will this work to take out hamburger meat that has been boiled?

Sandra, they make these in deifferent sizes, so I think one of the smaller ones would have a small enough mesh wire part to use on hamburger that has been boiled. The one I have would at least get the majority of it out. Also, different brands each are a little different. But yes, overall I think one would work well for that.

I bought one of these recently at a garage sale, I’ve wanted one ever since I first saw one on a cooking show! Glad to read of some other uses!
