Crockpot Round Steak

by Lynn

Round steak is a cheaper cut of meat, that if often tough, and hard to cook. My favorite way to cook it is in my crockpot.  Cooking it long and slow, helps give it a better flavor and texture.

I often us round steak for my crockpot fajitas, but I don’t always want a Mexican type meal. So, I have been trying to come up with different ways to use round steak.

I recently cooked round steak different than I had before, and it turned out well. In fact, I think this is one of the best ways that I have cooked round steak.

This turned out so flavorful and tender.

You can eat this over rice or noodles, but we enjoy it over grits. Whatever you serve this over, it will be good.

LOL, I was wondering what that yellow stuff was. Leave it to a Northerner not to recognize ‘grits.’
The meat looks so tender and rich! I sometimes buy top round but find that, unless I get a particular cut of it, it isn’t as tender as some steaks. A butcher once told my mother to always watch for a kidney-shaped piece, as this will be the most tender.
I’ve been wanting to use my crockpot more, and top round is usually cheap, so I’m going to look for it again and try your recipe. Except I’ll probably use noodles, LOL!

Love this stuff! We call it by a different name that I can’t say on the internet. LOL! I serve it over mashed potatoes. It’s a very inexpensive meal with lots of comfort. Yummy!

Crockpot round steak is one of my favorites. I make mine a little different though, I use white gravy. It’s on my menu for this Saturday. :)

I made this yesterday to celebrate Mother’s day with my grandma. Used eye round steak and it still cooked up very tender. Substituted herbs with some chipotle Tabasco and chili powder and served over a copycat recipe of Cilantro Lime rice from Chipotle (the restaurant :-) Thanks for the recipe, will be making it again!

Is there something I can sub for the red wine?

@Morgan, You can use broth and a red wine vinegar. For every 1/2 cup broth use 1 teaspoon of red wine vinegar. It does not tenderize as good as the wine, but I have used it in other recipes, so I think it would work in this one.

Very bland, lacks flavor. Needs salt, red pepper flakes, carrots, AGAIN, very bland.

I have this in my crock pot right now for dinner tonight! I had a round steak in my freezer for far too long (lets just be honest… over a year) and I needed to get it out of there. I stumbled upon this recipe while I was looking for a way to cook it and this one was the winner! Our house smelled amazing when we came home from church today and I am really excited to try it! Thanks for posting the recipe :)
