I made this buttered rice with ground beef over the weekend and my family loved it!

I had planned on sharing the recipe in a few weeks, but my family loved it so much that I knew I needed to share it with you this week. It was too good to wait.

Buttered Rice with Ground Beef

This recipe not only tastes great it also uses basic ingredients that I almost always have on hand. Rice, beef broth, ground beef, onions, and butter. All things I have for a simple dinner.

The leftovers of this reheated well. My kids and husband ate the leftovers for lunch and loved them. Next time I make it I might make a larger batch for even more leftovers.

This may not be the prettiest dinner that I have made, but it is easy and delicious. So often that is the case. Yes, presentation is important, but we often lose site of the simple basic recipes when we think only of perfection. Simple recipes may not also be beautiful, but they are easy, delicious, and budget friendly.

  2. This is one of my husband’s favorite hotdishes only that I add 1/3 cup Tamari (soy sauce) to it sometimes to give it a different, slightly tangy flavor. The butter adds so much to the flavor.

    Also, sometimes instead of using broth, I’ll make a batch of my homemade “Cream of Anything” soup (onion, celery, mushroom – whatever veggies I have in the fridge) and add that if we want a creamier hotdish (still using the soy sauce). When my kids were little this is the way they liked it best.

    • I love the idea of soy sauce/tamari added. My daughter told me next time I should add some seasonings to change it up. It think this is one of those recipes that would be easy to add things to and change up. Thanks for the ideas.

  3. Does the type of rice matter?…..basmati, long grain, jasmine?

    • I used long grain white rice, but I think basmati or jasmine would work. Brown rice would probably work too, but you would need to add more liquid and increase the time. I hope that helps!

    • Thank you! And yes I think it would work well in the Instant Pot. I love that idea! I may have to try that next time I make it.

      So I did this using the instant pot last night….I, personally, am not a fan of the way ground beef comes out of the instant pot, so I browned the ground beef with the onions in the pot on saute mode. I drained the beef and set it aside. Then I browned more onion in a little butter on saute mode again, added white rice, water, and better than bouillon beef and then pushed the rice function. When the rice was done, I stirred the already cooked beef in with the rice. Delicious!! As other commenters have said, this is an easy one to add to. I envision Mexican beef rice next time with taco seasoning and Rotel πŸ™‚
