5 Things I Am Loving (October)

It has been awhile since I shared a few of my favorite things. I hope to get back to doing more of these because I love sharing my favorite finds with you all.

I saw this shirt when another blogger posted a picture on Instagram of her husband wearing it. Since we raise hogs and are a science loving family I knew we need it. I ordered two of them and my daughter stole mine.


She loves it! Actually we all love it. It fits our family so well. And it would make a great gift for the holidays. It is available from Amazon for a pretty reasonable price. I might have to get a few more for gifts.


I am loving baby potatoes or creamer potatoes or whatever you call them! Love them! I wash them. Spread them on a cookie sheet, drizzle them with oil and sprinkle them with salt. Bake them at 425 for about 30-40 minutes or until potatoes are tender. So good!

I am still loving my casserole crock pot! I used it so much last year during the holidays. It works great for keeping mashed potatoes and other things warm. It also works well for cooking so many other things. I have used mine so much over the last year.


I am finally using my Instant Pot more and am also loving it. My new favorite thing to cook in it is eggs. They turn out great and peel better than any other way I have cooked boiled eggs.

I don’t quite have the right time for them though. I keep over cooking them slightly. If you cook eggs in yours how long do you cook them?

I can’t wait to keep trying more things in the Instant Pot.

I am also loving this book!


A friend of mine let me borrow it recently and I read it in two days. It was that good!

I have read a lot of books on WWII, but My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me is a totally different perspective of WWII than I have ever read. It is about a modern day woman who finds out horrible things about her family’s Nazi past. If you love WWII books or really any type of non fiction history type books I highly recommend it. It will probably be one of my favorite books of 2016.

  1. I love the t-shirt, and am going to buy one. I also love the baby potatoes, and will have to stock up. The Instant Pot rchanged my cooking life. It is so easy to use and I use that and my crockpot more than my stove top and oven. I was amazed at how easy it is to use it to boiled eggs. I use large eggs and set the timer on manual for five minutes, and then do a quick release, and plunge them in an ice bath. They peel so easily

    • I thought I might have some readers that would like that t-shrit. 🙂 Thanks for letting me know how long you do the eggs for. When I looked it up online the time really varied on what people said. 6 mins still gave me a little green on the outside of the yolks and I thought the yolk was a little dry. But they peeled great! I don’t think I have ever had eggs peel that easy. So I loved that! I will try 5 minutes next time.

    I have a different epc but works the same, I tried the 777 and the 666 but I think the 444 would be worth a try . Looking at the crock casserole this year

  3. I’m glad to hear you’re using your Instant Pot more. I just posted the other day about how I cook perfect eggs in mine. You have to time the cooking and the pressure release.

    I just got the Casserole Crock Pot but there is not a lot recipes for it. How do you know how much time to cook things for?

    • I like it best for shorter time recipes. Here is a post I did on it that has some recipes and links to how I use it and recipes I adapted. Maybe it will help. I don’t use it so much for roasts, meats that take a long time to cook etc., but I do like it for chicken legs, pork chops and a few other things like that. I also like it for more casserole type things that I can cook in like 4-5 hours in it. The cheese doesn’t brown in it like it would in the oven, but many casserole type recipes have adapted well for it. It also works well for keeping meat, like shredded chicken, taco meat, bbq, etc warm for serving large groups. I have done that several times with it. Here is the link I hope it helps.
