Last month I shared about how much I love my new ceramic griddle. On the post I received this comment.

I am glad you posted this I am actually looking for a good ceramic coated nonstick pan for eggs and omelets and such. You mentioned how you have a love hate relationship with conventional nonstick I understand your feelings. I got rid of all my nonstick coated pans a few years ago because of peeling. I usually use a cast iron pan, but I don’t like how it sometimes absorbs the egg smell. My family seems to have a strong sense of smell and complain when other foods smell like eggs. So I am looking to invest in a good ceramic nonstick pan for just eggs and omelets. I have read so many mixed reviews on all pans from expensive to inexpensive and was wondering if you had any suggestions.

Non stick ceramic pans, especially skillets, have become popular. I have been curious about them, but besides my griddle I do not own any. As soon as I read this comment I knew that it would make a great Ask the Readers post.

Can you help this reader out? Do you own a non stick ceramic pan? What are your thoughts and what brands do you love?

    No they are not!! Give me plain cast iron, stainless steel or copper. And I’m happy. Ceramics are overpriced and over-rated pieces of junk.

    One small addendum to my comment is that I have a small pan which is used strictly for egg dishes. Nothing else gets cooked in that pan.

    I got a ceramic skillet for Christmas. I’ve only used it once so far, but was very impressed with it’s non-stick properties. I cooked ground beef and almost couldn’t chop it up because it was slipping and sliding around in the pan so much! 😀 The one thing I don’t like is the instructions said to not use it on high heat. Medium to medium-high was the recommended maximum heat level. Sometimes I need to sear on high heat, so I’ll stick with my cast iron skillet for that.

      I should mention, my skillet is Cuisinart brand, but since I gave it to myself for Christmas I know the price. $19.99 at Sam’s Club. 😀

    I gave myself a 12″ Green Pan skillet almost a year ago and I love it. I am really careful with it (no metal tools or spoons) and so far I only have one scratch in it. The directions said to not use olive oil, so I use grape seed oil if I think something needs some oil, but really, things don’t stick! It also washes nicely – I’ve cooked with tomato sauce in it (mine is white) and it always comes off. One thing that I don’t like is that it shouldn’t go in the dishwasher, so I always have at least one pan to wash. I just bought myself a 10 piece set for Christmas, but it hasn’t come yet, so I don’t know if I will like the sizes. I still love a cast iron skillet for certain foods.

    I have been using ceramic skillets for a couple of years and absolutely love them. They are very easy to clean, sometimes just a swipe with a paper towel will do the job. I don’t usually sear my meats, so I don’t mind cooking on med or med-high. I do have one of the “green” skillets, but I rarely use it because the ceramic ones are so easy to use and clean. I use a couple of different brand names but can’t recall them.

    I have a ceramic skillet, and I love it. I’ve had it for over a year, and so far it has been very scratch- and chip-resistant, unlike previous nonstick pans that I’ve had. Mine is an inexpensive pan that I bought at Walmart.

    I love my ceramic pans. I got a set at Costco plus ordered a big one from Amazon that can cook 2 lb. of ground beef. I was using cast iron for anything that wasn’t eggs but then got a new flat-top stove and my cast iron is slightly warped so didn’t contact the surface to cook evenly.

    What I hate is my new ceramic griddle. We use a griddle every day for sandwiches, quesedillas, burgers, breakfast, etc. So we replace them every 6 months or so just from heavy use. I got a ceramic one and can’t wait for it to die! It doesn’t come clean, everything sticks, it cooks too hot, …

    I first bought a full set of ceramic pots & pans about 5 years ago when Bialetti first came out with them. I absolutely loved the non-stick of these! Nothing ever ever stuck, and I don’t cook with oil or butter. But, over time, since the ceramic on these was white….they would stain despite always being soaked and hand washed. You had to use nylon utensils, anything metal would scratch and chip the coating. I ended up giving the whole set away to Goodwill about a year ago. This brand just didn’t hold up over time and even Barkeeper’s Friend could get the stains out. I was really disappointed in this brand. I bought the set directly from the manufacturer before they were widely available in stores. I got a great deal buying basically wholesale. But, they were supposed to be warrantied. I had 2 issues arise and never was able to get a response or help. I would not recommend this brand. It is now widely sold at Bed Bath and Beyond.

    When I donated these, I purchased a set of stainless steel T-fal’s at Target. It was rather inexpensive and I bought the pieces individually so that I got the sizes I wanted/use. But, I didn’t have something non-stick to cook things like eggs. There are just certain things I can not cook in SS. So, I purchased a Cuisinart 12″ ceramic skillet at Target. Works wonderfully! I have not had any problems with the Cuisinart brand like I did Biatelli.

    So, now I have my SS set to use for everday use and the Cuisinart ceramic for any non-stick stuff. Works for me!

    I received a ceramic frypan for Christmas two years ago and fell in love! Since then I have added two more to my collection so I have various sizes. They don’t stick and don’t peel. They can stain and can chip but overall I am still happier with them. The brand I have is Bella. A more expensive brand may have a stronger coating.

    Last year I bought a small ceramic frying pan, now I have 3 frying pans size varies, a wok and 3 saucepans. Now I never use anything else. Teflon and non stick pans are third rate compared to these. Go get em!

    I received a Green skillet as a gift a few tears ago. Initially I was impressed with the non-stick feature, but it very quickly became scratched and I had to throw it away in a few months. I will keep to my cast iron.

    I bought two expensive Henkels pans. I hate these pans. Everything sticks. I have tried different temperatures, I always use oil or butter. I made sure to season them. Nothing works. I am throwing them away today. Unfortunately I have a conduction cooktop and it is hard to find a regular Teflon pan that will work with conduction. I am starting the hunt today. I don’t understand what I am doing wrong with these pans, but I am through trying. They go in the garbage today.
