Five Years!

Feb 28, 2013

  • Twitter

The last week of February 2008, I started a little blog that I called Lynn’s Kitchen Adventures. When I started this site it was basically a cooking journal, so that I could keep track of all the recipes that I was making and feeding my family.

My husband would often ask me if I remembered those really good cookies, or whatever it was he wanted me to fix. I would say, no, did I make that? To which he would say something like, yes can’t you make it again. So, this site started as an easy way for me to keep track of my life in the kitchen.

I picked the name Lynn’s Kitchen Adventures because Lynn’s Kitchen and Lynn’s Recipes and almost every other name I tried was taken. Lynn’s Kitchen Adventures was not. At the time, the site was basically for me and I never expected it to become what it did, if I had known, I would have been much more careful about picking the name.

Looking back though Lynn’s Kitchen Adventures has been a perfect name, because the last five years truly have been an adventure for me.

In the beginning my family were about the only ones that read my site. When I look back over those first few months of blogging I often cringe at the posts and photos I shared. I often blogged without even sharing a photo during those first few months.

Little did I know back then what the next five years would bring and what this site would become.

My cooking has changed and yet in many ways it has stayed the same. I can easily say my photography has improved, although I still have a long ways to go on that.

I have shared kitchen tips, a few cooking basics, part of my cookbook collection, kitchen essentials,  homemade favorites, almost five years of weekly menu plans, and more recipes than I care to count.

We went from a wheat grinding, slightly healthy eating, peanut butter loving family, to a gluten free eating, slightly healthier eating, peanut allergy family.

I have shared struggles and real life along with the recipes and tips. I am just like all of you, so keeping it real has always been important to me.

When I started this site I never imagined that I would be writing ebooks and selling them on Amazon.com.

It truly has been an adventure. And I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing all these adventures with you.

I can’t wait to see what the years ahead hold for this site. I don’t know what all it will bring, but I am sure it will continue to be a fun adventure. I do know that I plan to continue doing what I have always done and that is to share kitchen tips and recipes for making your life in the kitchen easier.

I can’t finish this post without saying thank you to all of you! You help make this site what it is and I can’t thank you enough. Thank you for your comments, your thoughts, and for coming back each and every day to follow along on my adventures.

Now, I am curious if any of you have been reading since 2008? I think there might be a few of you.

And if you have not been reading that long, do you remember when you did start reading my site? I would also love to hear how you found my site if you can remember.

Congratulations! 5 years is great! You have great recipes and many that I have tried have become staples for our family. I have been reading your site for about 3 years maybe. I think I found you through moneysavingmom.com, tammysrecipes.com, or amysfinerthings.com. I have found many great blogs through those three blogs.

Congrats! I know I have been reading for at least 2 years, maybe 3. Can’t remember how I found you, maybe thru Life as Mom? And about your photography, I appreciate that your photos are not staged all the time with fancy dishes, napkins, etc. They look like you took them when you were about to eat and like the busy mom you are!

Thank you! I appreciate it. I try to keep it real and taking a quick photo right before my family eats it, is usually reality around my house. 🙂 I have found lots of great sites through Life As Mom. She was one of the first blogs I read regularly and I still enjoy her site.

Congratulations!!! I have been following and using your site for about 2 years now?? I believe I found you thru Happy Housewife, or Motherhood on a Dime…can’t remember for sure. I have fallen in love with so many of your recipes and your site is my ‘go to’ place when I do my menu planning or when I’m looking for a yummy dessert. I never would have thought of making my own taco seasonings, taco sauce, sloppy joe sauce, etc…and now I can’t imagine NOT making my own (your recipes of course!). I am so glad I found your site! I’m sure my family is also LOL!

Congratulations!! I honestly wish I could remember when I found your site. Maybe 2009 or 2010? I just want to say how much I love your site. I don’t have any allergies, but I’m willing to try all of your recipes. I have found some real favorites that I make in my home weekly (rice cooker mac and cheese, baked oatmeal). I love your food combos and all your unique ideas. You are real and make cooking very enjoyable for me. I’m always excited to look through your recipe list for something new to me to cook! Thanks for such a fabulous job.

Congrats, Lynne! That is quite a milestone. You should be so proud of all you have accomplished during your “adventures”! It’s funny how this blogging thing can take us to so many unexpected places, isn’t it? 🙂 I know that I have been reading for over 2 years for sure. 😉

    Big congratulatory hugs!

p.s. I think your daughter who has enjoyed getting in the kitchen of late should make you a gluten-free birthday cake (or cupcake) with one of those #5 birthday candles. 🙂

5 years!? That is awesome! Thank you so much for taking the time to blog and share your recipes. So many of your recipes have become family favorites at our house. I also want to echo what a few others said, I enjoy how not all of your photos are staged and how your food is real, everyday food 🙂 Hmm, I’m not sure long I’ve been reading, maybe 3-4 years? I probably found you through Amy’s Finer Things.

Congtats! I think I have been weekly seeking your site for almost 2years. When my kids rave about dinner or my hubby raves about breakfast, I say, “it’s Lynn.”. This week my daughter was officially diagnosed gluten, rye, and spelt intolerant. I have followed gluten free in the past sporadically, but will now be looking to your site probably daily. My hardest thing i think will be fixing her lunch. My dd is 9. Thanks again!!

Congratulations on five years of blogging! That’s quite an accomplishment. I have been a follower for two or three years, I think. I think my favorite recipe that I have made over and over and over is pudding and baked oatmeal. I think I found the blog through either MoneysavingMom or LifeAsMom. I am heading over to the gluten-free recipes for a brownie recipe right now!

I have been following your site since either 2008 or 2009, I can’t remember. You are one of my favorite food blogs! I love your down to earth style of cooking and my family usually always loves your recipes.

For a time last year when we thought my son was going to have to go gluten free my only consolations was knowing I could get great recipes from you. I can’t wait for all of the great recipes that are still to come.

Not sure how I found your website, but I really appreciate your efforts. I loved the baked oatmeal and have made several versions. I have frozen them for those quick breakfasts. I also packed some to share with someone undergoing chemo.

I have also made several batches of the maple syrup susage pancake muffins. The office loves it when I share.

I’m very thankful to have found this site. Thanks
