This time of year it is easy to get caught up in the business and craziness that goes on around us. It is easy to get stressed about what needs to get done or about what is wrong in life and what we don’t have, but I encourage you to take a step back and look at what you do have.
Take a moment to count your blessings.
I have often found that in the middle of the craziness of life it helps to stop and look at all I am blessed with. And when I stop and realize all that I have, it makes me look at what I can do for others.
One of the things that my mom taught me was that when life gets crazy, and you feel like times are tough, it is best to look around you and see the lives of others. It often takes looking at the lives of others to see how much you have.
When you think you have it rough, look around and you will see someone that has a greater struggle. When you think you have very little, look around and you will find someone with less. And when you think you are too busy to care, look around and you will see someone busier.
Over the years, I have found this to be so true. When I am feeling discouraged and depressed and feel like life is more than I can handle, I try to stop and look around, not only to count my blessings, but to see who I can bless.
And these blessings do not have to be big or expensive, blessings can come in all sizes.
A plate of Christmas cookies to the neighbor down the street. Taking the time to help out the widow at church who has no family near by. A few toys to the family in need.
A simple dinner invitation to the person who struggles with loneliness. Taking the time to make a phone call to a friend simply to show you care. A smile to the cashier at the grocery store.
No matter how much or how little you have, you can be a blessing to others.
Our greatest blessing is to see others blessed.
Mercy knows that blessings are a two-way street. Both the giver and receiver are blessed. That’s the way of a blessing. So, Mercy is sending out a simple message: blessings count.
Count your blessings and share them at Our Blessings Count. And take a moment to click on the snowflakes to see the blessings of others.
What have you been blessed with?
Mercy recognizes the stress we put on ourselves and our families over the holidays. They want to remind us that ‘Our greatest blessing is to see others blessed.’ One way we can do this is to pause, list our blessings, and share them with others. Let’s count our blessings together at www.ourblessingscount.com.
