Ask The Readers {My Mom and Canning Pickles}

Last week for my Ask The Readers question I asked about canning tips for beginners. You all had some great tips, so for those wanting to learn how to can I encourage you to read through the comments. After I posted my question last week, I was talking on the phone to my mom about canning and all the work she used to put into […]

Quinoa Tabouli

My husband loves tabouli, but tabouli is not allowed on the gluten free diet because the main ingredient is bulger and bulgar is wheat. Now my husband is not gluten free, so he could freely eat traditional tabouli, but except for the occasional dessert or baked good, I pretty much cook gluten free so that the whole family can enjoy the same things. So, tabouli […]

Creamy Cold Tomato Soup

I know I recently confessed my dislike of soup during the summertime, but this Creamy Cold Tomato Soup is different. It is cold soup and cold soup is not really soup to me. I know, I know, I am strange, but stay with me on this soup because it is really good. Ironing is one of my least favorite jobs to do. I would rather […]

The Perfect Time To Make Homemade Vanilla

I love homemade vanilla. And after having homemade vanilla, I do not even want to think about going back to the store bought kind. It really is that much better. I know I have mentioned my love of homemade vanilla before. I have done a post on making it. And I did an update post on it, and I even did a video of how […]

What Is It Wednesday {Sugar Cane}

I loved reading through the comments on last week’s What Is It Wednesday. Quite a few of you guessed sugar cane, but Vivian had it exactly right when she guessed canned sugar cane. It was canned sugar cane and we did not like it. Well, I should say my family did not like it, I actually did not end up trying it. Chewing it to get […]

Hot Fudge Ice Cream Sandwiches

A few weeks ago for the fourth of July, I wanted to make something special for dessert, but because I wanted to enjoy the holiday, I wanted to be able to make the dessert ahead of time. When I opened the July issue of Martha Stewart magazine, I knew I had the perfect dessert, ice cream sandwiches. But because it was Martha, they were not […]

Gluten Free Blueberry Orange Muffins

I mentioned a few weeks ago that The Cake Mix Doctor Bakes Gluten-Free has changed the way my girls feel about gluten free baking. They actually enjoy gluten free baking now thanks to the book and a few gluten free cake mixes. When I bought the book a few months ago, my girls went through it and marked several recipes that they wanted to try. […]

Creamy Hot Fudge Sauce

What is not to like about hot fudge sauce? Especially during the summer and all the triple digit weather that some of us have been experiencing. I have several different hot fudge sauces that I make, but this recipe adapted from Carnation Evaporate Milk is a favorite of ours. Pour it over a bowl of ice cream and you have a wonderful summertime treat.

Menu Plan and Pantry Challenge Update

We are entering the last week of the pantry challenge and although I have not done quite as well as I hoped to, I did use up quite a bit of food from the freezer. A few really good sales, like the 10 for $10 sale at a local grocery store, and a trip to the Asian Market to buy rice, were not exactly in […]
