Are You Gluten Free Dairy Free {Ask the Readers}

Ask The Readers

Last January my daughter and I tried a dairy free diet for a month. That month long experiment was worth it because it helped my daughter.

A gluten free dairy free diet has really helped her feel better over the last year. She is not 100% dairy free, but avoids eating it most of the time. I would say she is 95% dairy free.

I do still cook some with butter, but for things like pizza, enchiladas, and casseroles I try to just leave a section without cheese. She is not allergic to dairy, so this works fine for us.

She also drinks either coconut milk or Soy milk. That is also what we use when we need a dairy free dessert like pudding. Yes, homemade dairy free chocolate pudding is possible.

I know many people that eat gluten free also eat dairy, but since dairy free has been on my mind a lot this last year, I was curious how many people need to eat both dairy and gluten free.

So, I thought I would ask you, my readers, how many of you are both dairy and gluten free.

If you, or someone in your family, eats both dairy free and gluten free, I would love it if you would leave a comment and let me know. I am really curious how many of my readers do both.

I am both gluten free and dairy free. Eating real and not processed foods has helped me in many ways.

I am both gluten and dairy free. I have mixed connective autoimmune diseases, and although I am not “allergic” to either I steer clear of both to do whatever I can to minimize more pain/problems on my body.

My husband and I are strictly gluten free, but not completely dairy free yet, though it appears we are moving in that direction. We are both sensitive, and working on elimination diets to sort everything out. Will probably end up not just GF & DF, but also grain & legume free. Paleo, if you will. It is a work in progress.

I know a lot of people that have benefited from a paleo diet. If it works and helps it is so worth it!

Our family avoids dairy as much as we can. It made a huge difference in our health. We take lactaid onky for sweets like ice cream. I’m the only gluten free person in the family.

3 out of 4 of us are dairy free in addition to gluten free–we are all gluten free.

I’ve been gluten free for 3 years, and in the last 6 months I’ve discovered a sensitivity to dairy as well. I’m the only one in my family who eats this way, and it’s tough!

    Hi-
I am on a FODMAP diet, which means gluten free, lactose free and no high fructose. I had been not feeling well for 3 years and finally my GI specialist had me go on this diet when all of my tests came back normal. It was very depressing at first since I thought I had been eating healthy and found out it was making me feel worse and was limited to only certain foods on this diet. I had to cut out several of my favorite fruits and veggies due to being high in fructose. It is hard to find foods without garlic and onions which are a big no-no on a FODMAP diet. I have now been on the diet for a year and do feel better. I have days that are not good, but get through it. Eating several small meals a day really helps my digestive system process what I eat also. I have finally found recipes that I can make for good bread, cookies and such. I am thankful for Lactaid for ice cream they make since I can eat my favorite dessert!

I follow a gluten free and dairy free diet. I also avoid peanut, soy, and sesame! This has helped me remove almost all processed foods so I do feel much better. Planning meals takes more time, but it is so worth feeling better.

I am very allergic to both dairy and gluten!! I’m very disciplined in avoiding both, but I miss dairy the most! Carragean in products makes me sick, too, so I can’t even drink almond milk or eat dairy free cheese!

I have been gluten free and dairy free for 2 years….and caffeine free, corn free, sugar free, starch free, sodium free, processed foods free, and I think that’s the end of the list. Part from allergies and part from blood pressure. Also an infection called Candida that is like a yeast infection. I still eat well and eat a variety of foods. I’ve done alot of research on all of it and tried alot of different recipes, mostly from online. I love the recipes that let me make everyday meals but without the foods that make me sick. I’m the cook for our household so it not only has to satisfy me but everyone else also. So far it’s worked out okay but I’m always looking for new recipes.
