I think I am addicted to chocolate covered craisins, otherwise known as cranberry raisinets. They are so good and I have been eating way too many of them.
As I was eating my cranberry raisinets recently, I thought that I could easily make a version of these myself at home.
They are basically just chocolate and craisins after all. I also knew that an at home version would be a little healthier. Not only that I knew I could make them cheaper than I could buy them.
So, I decided to give it a try and see what I could come up with. I am so glad I tried this.
The at home version is as good, if not better, than the real ones. Seriously these are so good and so easy to make.
My kids loved them and have been eating them like crazy the last few days. I will definitely be making more of these soon because the batch I made is already gone.
If you want to make these a little healthier, and higher in antioxidants, you could easily use a high-quality dark chocolate. I love dark chocolate so I think they would be really good that way.
Homemade Chocolate Covered Craisins
Skip the chocolate craisins or raisins at the store and make them at home.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 12 ounces of craisins
Instructions
- Melt chocolate chips and butter in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
- Add craisins and stir until well combined and mixed together.
- Spread out on a cookie sheet that has been lined with waxed paper and refrigerate for several hours or until firm.
- Remove from waxed paper and enjoy!
- I like the chocolate on these to stay firm so I suggest storing them in the refrigerator, that is if you can avoid eating them all.

Okay – these are ridiculously good!! I am not even fond of Craisins – my son is the lover of those things. But these are way too yummy! 🙂 Too bad my fridge doesn’t have a lockable compartment, as these are going to seriously impede my weight loss desires 🙂

This is a wonderful idea! I can’t believe I didn’t think of this! Especially since I use craisins in my fudge! Mmmm!
Tammy's GoodPlans
I L.O.V.E the orange flavored craisins and I bet they’d be great covered in chocolate as well, but I think they are fantastic on their own. Yum!
Lynn
@Tammy’s GoodPlans, Orange flavored crasins? I did know that they made those. I think those would go very good with the chocolate. Where do you find the orange flavored ones? Have I just missed seeing them.
Tammy's GoodPlans
@Lynn, I found them at the Target on Memorial. They are great on salads, and just as a snack. I wonder if Aldi’s carries they as well?
Christy B.
@Tammy’s GoodPlans,
There are cherry flavored ones, too!

I’m sitting here at the computer munching on Craisins and I come across this? I wonder if I can get them done (or at least in the fridge) before my husband gets home from work. I’m sure he’d rather I be making him dinner. 😉
Thanks for the idea!
Lynn
@Christy B., I hope you enjoy them! :
sarah k. @ the pajama chef
these look so good! we eat so many craisins here it’s ridiculous. 🙂
barrie
So the chocolate chips are nut-free?
Lynn
@barrie, I developed this recipe before we knew my daughter was allergic to nuts and peanuts. Now I read labels and some brands are safe for her and some are not. My suggestion is to just be careful and read labels to be sure they are safe for those with nut allergies.
barrie
@Lynn, I’m just looking for some brands to try for nut-free- My family doesn’t have the allergies, but my girls go to schools that are nut-free. I’d like to send it goodies, but can’t find a good chocolate chip on any lists…
Rachel
